Rep. Kihuen Applauds Governor Sandoval's Efforts to Keep Nevada Families Insured

Statement

Location: Las Vegas, NV

Today, Rep. Kihuen released the statement below following Governor Sandoval's announcement that Centene will operate in Nevada as SilverSummit through the Silver State Healthcare Insurance Exchange, providing an Affordable Care Act marketplace healthcare plan in 14 rural counties that were left without any healthcare options.

"I applaud Governor Sandoval's efforts to ensure all Nevadans continue to receive health coverage through the Nevada Exchange. SilverSummit's decision to sell health insurance on the Nevada Exchange will provide peace of mind for residents throughout Nevada who feared losing health insurance coverage.

It is unfortunate that reckless Republicans in Congress have continued to put the health of Americans at risk and destabilize the exchanges in their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). President Trump must continue to make the Cost Sharing Reduction payments that help ensure stability in the marketplace and keep premiums affordable for all Americans. Just today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) announced that failing to make these payments would raise premiums by 20 percent on the exchanges and would increase the federal deficit by $194 billion by 2026.

What Nevada families need right now are real solutions that will keep their premiums from rising and healthcare costs low. I am committed to working with my colleagues to ensure that we stabilize the marketplaces and provide American families with a public health insurance option to guarantee that no Nevada family goes without access to care."
